Ravelglen Farm is a family run farm nestled in the hills on the edge of the Glens of Antrim. The land is farmed by the O’Kane family who purchased their first Irish Moiled cow Glenfield Dolly in 2002.
Brian takes the lead with the cattle on the farm with his wife Anne-Marie a keen gardener growing ingredients for her jams and preserves. The sheep on the farm are looked after by his son Caillin and his partner Josie.
Through very careful selections the herd has grown into one of the top Irish Moiled Pedigree herds within the breed winning multiple titles at all the top shows in the country. Brian prides himself in his stockman ship and boasts an exceptionally quiet herd with carefully chosen traits to reflect the best in the breed.
He has held numerous positions on the Board of the Irish Moiled Cattle Society including holding the role as Chairman and is currently Honorary Treasurer. He has used these positions to develop a keen interest in the promotion of Irish Moilie beef recognising the quality, rarity and of the meat, also the health benefits and sustainability of it.
He has been the driving force in the introduction of the Irish Moilie beef scheme and is leading the establishment of the Irish Moilie Beef group setting standards in the breeding rearing and finishing of the cattle to help produce the best beef possible beef.
The Farm produces some of the best Irish Moilie beef providing animals for the scheme and providing their own beef boxes on a regular basis.
Ravelglen Farm tries to be as self-sufficient as possible with a ready supply of vegetables, eggs, lamb and Moilie Beef with the quality of the meat a very big part of this.
The farm is also farmed as sustainability as possible and have just planted over 600 trees which is a big percentage of the acreage available.
